CLOSED CIRCUIT TELEVISION
Closed circuit television systems are becoming increasingly popular amongst those who are concerned about home and office security. They are easy to obtain and have installed and provide users with the ability to monitor one location from another. Although systems can vary, they all work in the same basic way. Cameras are attached to the desired locations and they send a closed broadcast signal to viewing monitors. These monitors may be located in the next room or in another location entirely.
The first closed circuit television system was installed in Germany in 1942. By 1949 they had made their way to the United States. Although they have maintained the same basic concept since 1942, modern technology continues to be incorporated into new models. High end systems currently employ DVR technology, enabling them to record and store data for several years. A system with this type of capacity would not generally be necessary for homeowners or business owners, though.
Closed circuit television systems are used in a variety of different ways by homeowners; some people utilize them simply to see who is at their gate while others have them in place in case of a burglary or emergency situation. In the event of a burglary, the cameras have the potential to capture clear images that may be used to lead the police to the criminals responsible. Those with houses which include a panic room often install the monitors in that room, thus helping to ensure the safety of their family members. If they believe someone is breaking in they simply enter their panic room, call the police and then monitor the actions of the criminals from a safe environment.
Business owners use the closed circuit system in a similar way to homeowners, but they can also use the system to keep an eye on their employees. Most owners are concerned about theft from all possible sources and installing a closed circuit system is a key component of a security system. The systems are also relatively inexpensive, comparatively speaking. The very presence of visible cameras, especially in an enclosed space, is known to reduce the risk of theft, especially from shoplifters.
Similar systems have also been incorporated by city officials in major cities around the world. The footage recorded by them has led to multiple criminal convictions. Cameras in a city setting have a much more difficult time of capturing the exact right angle and yet they’ve worked well enough to continue to be installed. If they can be that successful under much more difficult circumstances, just think of how successful they would be in your home or office.
